Nudism, also called naturism, the practice of going without clothes, generally for reasons of health or comfort. Nudism is a social practice in which the sexes interact freely but commonly without engaging in sexual activities.

The origin of the practice in Germany in the early 20th century coincided with a rebellion against the rigid moral attitudes of the late 19th century. The first known nudist club, Freilichtpark (“Free Light Park”), appeared about 1903 near Hamburg and was soon followed by Richard Ungewitter’s seminal work Die Nacktheit (1906; Nakedness), which went through several printings. Nudism spread through Europe after World War I and became established in North America during the 1930s. The American League of Physical Culture was founded in 1929 to promote nudism. In the United States and Canada the practice has remained restricted to a few secluded camps and beaches. The atmosphere of these camps is generally deliberately nonerotic, and most are governed by strict rules of conduct.

Naturism is a way of life encompassing non-sexual social nudity and the cultural movement which advocates for and defends clothes-free living. Both may also be referred to as nudism. Though the two terms are commonly interchangeable, nudism emphasizes the practice of nudity, whereas naturism highlights an attitude favoring harmony with nature and respect for the environment, into which that practice is integrated. That said, naturists come from a range of philosophical and cultural backgrounds; there is no single naturist ideology. https://dbpedia.org/page/Naturism

Naturism is normal

It’s just ordinary people choosing not to wear clothes when the weather and circumstances are appropriate. Our activities are no different from what most people do in their leisure time, other than the dress code. We’re not anti-clothes, we just know they are not always essential. It’s also a lot of fun!

Naturism is not about sex

Naturists are not asexual, but despite what people think, a gathering of naked people doesn’t make for a sexually charged environment.

You won't be embarrassed!

Once in a naturist place, you soon get used to being surrounded by naked people and forget that you are not wearing clothes. It’s clothed people that stand out. What you look like is irrelevant. No-one stares at you, or judges your appearance – it’s all about feeling good for yourself. No-one is forced to be naked all the time and people will put something on if the weather turns.

Naturism is very popular

Millions of people in the UK and around the world have discovered this wonderful way of life; a national survey by IPSOS-MORI in 2011 discovered that there are 3.7 million naturists in the UK. There are thousands of holiday resorts and other places serving the community. Plenty of people skinny-dip, go topless on beaches and spend time naked at home.

The International Naturist Federation (INF-FNI) is an organisation consisting of member federations, correspondents and extraordinary members in over forty countries. Together with other interested parties involved in naturist activities, the INF-FNI works to enhance and improve the naturist experience and the naturist business climate by promoting the benefits of naturism to the general public.

The American Association for Nude Recreation is the largest, most long-established organization of its kind in North America. With roots dating to 1931, we have grown from our humble beginnings to an organization that has served over 213,000 individuals throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and beyond. These members enjoy their own backyards and pools with family and friends, as well as over 180 nudist resorts and affiliates.
